June 11, 2026: Year 4 of our native wildflower meadow

This late spring, the Penstemon digitalis (Foxglove Beardtongue) is taking center stage with a beautiful flush of white blooms. One of my favorite parts of maintaining the meadow is walking the perimeter path and listening to the birds, insects, and other wildlife that are making their homes here.
This morning we spotted two red-winged blackbirds in the meadow. My friend Bob Barrett of Wild Bird Designscapes tells me that's a sign of a thriving ecosystem. Meanwhile, my youngest son Freddy, who just turned five, has taken on the important role of removing invasive snails from the plants.
We're enjoying this stage of the meadow's development and eagerly anticipating the next wave of color that will emerge in July. Have a listen to the birds and insects in the videos and experience a small piece of this growing habitat.
