The Future of Mermaid Park
We recently kicked off an exciting collaboration with Lenhardt Rodgers Architecture + Interiors, Meliora Design and The Bunyip Collective to reimagine Mermaid Park, a unique community open space in the heart of the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia.
This project aims to shape Mermaid Park into a space that reflects the character and needs of the local community. On Saturday, July 19th, we joined the Chestnut Hill Community Association at the park site to share our early design concepts and gather feedback from residents and visitors to the local Farmer’s Market. Our vision is to enhance the park’s role as a place for community connection and passive recreation, ideally making it a space where people can meet, relax, and explore nature.
Mermaid Park is a special place within the historic Chestnut Hill neighborhood. It serves as one of only two access points to the Friends Loop, a 0.6 mile trail perfect for casual hiking and enjoying the outdoors, which also links into the larger 4 mile Cresheim Trail network. Additionally, the site is located along Germantown Avenue and Winston Road which hosts the popular weekly Chestnut Hill Farmers Market. This event draws regular visitors and newcomers, positioning Mermaid Park as an ideal gathering space.
We’re thrilled to be part of this process and look forward to continuing to work closely with the community to shape the future of Mermaid Park!
